Dell T7920 Wont boot up

Jan 16, 2020 1:05AM PST

I was doing a windows 10 update and the system shut down 30% into the update. I have not been able to power it up since. The power button is indicating (4 amber blinks followed by a short pause, 5 white blinks, long pause, then repeats.)
The manual says this is a "PCIe Addin Card Population Issue" but does not say how to fix it. I unplugged everything but the power and nothing, just the same code so i removed all of the cards from all PCIe slots and still nothing, same code as before.

Re: won't boot up

From what you say, this seems a coincidence. An hardware error like this can't be introduced by an OS update.

Since these are rather expensive servers and the model is quite recent, I'd suggest to contact Dell technical support. If it's still in warranty, the repair will be free.

The usual "how to fix it"

Is to swap boards till it works again. The more seasoned tech make try a cmos reset and make sure the cards and cables are nice and seated but the repair, almost always is by board swaps.
