Dell Studio will not connect to wifi

my dads dell studio will not connect to the wifi. my mom has the same computer (smaller monitor) and the wifi is working just fine. i have a macbook and it works just fine. but when we try to hook up my dads laptop to wifi, any wifi, it just says internet explorer cannot display the webpage. it works with a ethernet or wireless at&t card however, please help i need this computer to complete a project for school.
