Dell Studio 1557 microSD stuck/dropped in SD slot =(

Aug 9, 2010 8:58AM PDT

Hi!

The other day, I idiotically got a microSD stuck in the SD reader slot, I don't even now how. Now I can't get it out, and am no sure whether or not to take apart my laptop, as I've always found disassembling to be a lengthy process.

Would anyone have any suggestions as to how I should get it out? ><

So far I've managed to tilt the laptop at an angle with enough light [at the right angle] to see the microSD at the bottom of the slot [it's about miniSD depth? [lengthwise] or w/e size rectangular microSD readers are ]. I'm just not sure what implement I should use to try and get it out =S

Thanks,
-Justin

I find my dentist friends are especially good at fishing such things out.

Lol at previous comment.
Call Dell's customer service- I'm sure you're not the first one to do this, and they're really helpful.

Tools

You need to fish it out, using whatever you got and sometimes you don't have a tool small or capable enough. The reason for a "dentist" help is they have such tools, you be surprised at what they have. Regardless, you can actually make some tools, using paper clips, snip them to create an "angle" this sharp point can snag a hanging card. -OR- if possible a slim metal(old wiper blade) has long stainless steel pieces of metal. Of course, the best way is to disassemble the laptop for greater access, you certainly have better access that way. Use your imagination to help to make what you need. -----Willy Happy

Haha, thanks for the replies! Happy

Just in case anyone comes across this thread and happened to encounter the same silly problem as me, the best way in my opinion was to get a very flat implement and wrap the tip with double-sided tape, and stick it in and take it out, works like a charm.

My advice is, do NOT stick random sharp things in there, I completely obliterated my SD slot by doing that, which is now unusable rofls.

Cheers,

Justin, what was the flat object that you used to retrieve the microSD card? I tried a paper clip a few months ago with tape, but that didn't work.

Thanks

It was the silver/handle part of a large-ish bullclip~
