Dell Reinstall Disk

Oct 17, 2009 6:02AM PDT

I have to reinstall XP on my Dell 4600 using my reinstall disk. However, the motherboard has been replaced and was wondering if the install disk will still work. I am not sure if the bios version makes any difference or not. Thanks.

Yes, as long as it's a Dell motherboard, regardless of BIOS version.

Not Quite

The motherboard is not from Dell, but a replacement I got from a local computer repair shop. The CPU from the bad motherboard was installed into a new, non-dell board. I just do not want to wipe the drive and find out I cannot reload the software. Any suggestions?

Ahh the old OEM issue.

This issue is WELL discussed. The Dell license is now dead since it's not a dell motherboard,

The cheapest exit may be next week to get that new Windows 7 Upgrade.

Perhaps the post was rhetorical in nature.

To try or not?

While the license is dead, one can try. If not, just days to something better.
