Dell PC boots up from Hibernation then auto hibernates again

Mar 8, 2007 8:42AM PST

Hi, I got a new Dell E520 and have enabled the hibernation feature of Vista. Its very strange but when I boot up from hibernating and don't do anything at all with the PC it immediately or within a minute goes back into hibernation. If I move the mouse when it starts up then it is fine.

This is very irritating because sometimes I like to start up the PC whilst I do something else but when I come back to it it is hibernating again.

Can anyone check if this happens with their Dell or is it a bug in Vista?

Cheers.

Check with Dell. I have an E521. 520 and 521 have many Vista issues. I don't have Vista yet, still waiting for express upgrade.

Thanks, but I have already checked with Dell and I don't even think they understood my problem looking at the reply they sent me.

Check...

Power Options Properties (or similar) and see how "hibernation" is configured at your computer, e.g.
? What event trigger hibernation ?
? How long the computer can be on idle before hibernation kicks in ?
? Maybe you have to do something (like moving the mouse) after coming out of hibernation within a certain time before hibernation sets in again ?
? etc.

Hibernation is a power saving feature (usually for laptops)so it may not be surprising for the computer to go into hibernation again for being idle for a very short time.

I have set hibernation to trigger after 30mins (and have also tried setting it to never but same problem).

I use the power button on start menu to trigger hibernation.

I prefer hibernation to stand by because I can come back hours later or overnight and still continue where I left off and help the environment.

On Windows XP coming out of hibernation doesn't cause it to automatically hibernate if I don't touch the computer.
