DELL or IBM

I am confused between Dell Latitutde D610 and IBM Thinkpad T42 series. Which is a better brand. They both have almost same configurations. Dell has a bit heigher ones. My budget is $2000/- USD

Which one should I buy?

I am a programmer and like fast and reliable PCs.
