Question

Dell Optiplex 745 bleeping noises not turning on

Jul 5, 2017 6:47AM PDT

Hi guys,

I have an old dell optiplex machine (I need it as I have old hardware that only runs on XP). Been working fine for a long time but the other day I was using it and got the blue screen of death. When I turn it on now I get 6 bleeps and nothing coming up on screen. Any idea what's caused this??

That's the BIOS telling you something about the issue it sees. The motherboard manual should tell the exact meaning.
If you don't have that, ask Dell customer service. You might have to tell them the exact model number, the BIOS maker and version or your service tag.

A good alternative might be to run XP in a virtual machine under Windows 10 or so. That's in your contingency plan, I assume, since no hardware has eternal life.
