Question

Dell no boot device available

by Yvoh51 / May 11, 2015 12:06 AM PDT

Hi new here and hoping someone can help. I have a Dell Inspriron 570, with AMD Athlon 630 Processor running Windows7. On start up I get 'no boot device available' F1 does nothing but windows will start with F2 which takes me to the Bios Set up Utility. I just press esc and windows starts. I have done numerous diagnostics now. None have found any problems. I have done a system restore. I am stumped and don't know what else to do. HELP!!

Did you set the BIOS up? Try its defaults? Replace the CMOS battery?

No diagnostic shows us when the BIOS settings are not right. It appears this area is one where they expect you to know what you wanted.

The quick answer to that is no! I don't know what I have to do, to do these things suggested. Thankyou for your reply. I am just a home pc user and don't understand all the techie stuff.

Try defaults.

And if the machine is over 2 years old, it may need a new bios battery. Few diagnostics would reveal this. It's part of what techs "know" or what I call "tribal knowledge."

I see I mentioned the 2 usual that happen a lot but now that it's years old the HDD could be taking too long to spin up or get ready. You claim you ran diagnostics so tell me the spin up times.

Where would I find the spin up times?

But you claimed you ran diagnostics. It would be in those tests.

Let's say you didn't get that detail. We would go get the HDD maker's drive test software and use that. Since these can wipe a drive if we do something wrong or the drive is on the edge, I don't need to remind folk to be ready with no less than 2 backups of what they can't lose.

In reply to: Sorry

I did run diagnostics but as it said all ok I didn't note results and now have no idea how to get back to tests. I'm sorry I am a complete novice at this and followed some instruction that I found online. I then went to dell help and ran their diagnostic and all that says is all passed. I will try to find HDd makers drive test later. Thanks
