Question

Dell N5030 backlighted keyboard install

Mar 14, 2017 1:53PM PDT

I am a Nam Vet and going blind so I need to replace my stock keyboard with one I bought with "Back Light keys".

I looked inside but the "one single connector" on it does not jive with the replacement with a second (tiny) connector and I want/need to do do this myself and can't afford any mistakes.

Will anyone direct to the CORRECT instal guide for replacing the factory key panel with the one that light up for my half-blind old butt?

Answer
This requires a matching mainboard.

Not only is there a keyboard change but the motherboard would need a change too.

For this reason I'd stick with external USB keyboards.

This computer has been NOTHING if not a PITA! This lousey appliance has been in the shop 4 times and still things keep breaking down, (2 hard drives, RAM, and now right click touchpad is out).
That's why it's official name is "My Dell From Hell"

Is this that Dell Inspiron N5030 iN5030-1723OBK
Mar 14, 2017 2:41PM PDT

From 2011. At over 4 years old it's on borrowed time. Laptops of the Inspirons don't last that long. They are cheap comparitively but don't stand up to heavy users.

I push our heavy users into Lattitudes or better.

This is my second Inspiron and after the first one "I should have known Better" but the price was right (and the costs have been piling up ever since)!
