Question

Dell latitude laptop won't boot

Sep 14, 2015 2:03AM PDT

I have a Dell latitude laptop which has suddenly stopped working. When I press the power button the led lights and the fans run but the screen displays nothing. After about 15 seconds the power light goes off but the other side leds (eg for the wifi, battery) come on, almost like it has gone to sleep. I've tried charging the battery and running it from the ac without the battery and that doesn't change anything. Can anyone help?

Surely Dell tech support can fix this. Possibly your local computer repair shop can fix it also.

However, be sure it isn't more expensive than this unknown laptop is worth. For example, replacing the motherboard costs about the same amount of money as a new laptop.

The only thing to try yourself: the generic reset:
- disconnect adapter
- remove battery
- keep power button pressed for 1 minute
- insert battery
- connect adapter to power
- turn on

If no luck, start the repair procedure. Note there is no guarantee that anything on your hard disk will survive the repair. But surely you have a good backup of what you don't want to lose?

Dell latitude is popular laptop and they have lots of "pulls" that work perfectly fine, if you want to do the work to make the swap.
