That battery issue may not be fixed with a BIOS update.

I usually find that it will charge when the machine is turned off. But no story here as to the age of the battery. It is proper for this to happen after a few years. But not a word about age or if the charger is not the one that the laptop came with. Sometimes I encounter the owner has used a non Dell charger or the power plug on the laptop is loose.

Anyhow, the BIOS should not fix the usual causes.

Was there more to the story?

Old battery, etc?

there's a recharging circuit built into these motherboards

the adapter sends power to it, and the circuit controls the charging. Sometimes that circuit fails. If it's an add-on to the motherboard, it can be replaced. If part of motherboard, repair is to replace it.
