I boot my PCLinuxOS CD to sniff out it it's some hardware issue.
I'm having some difficulty with a Dell latitude C640 2GHz laptop. The display, whether to external monitor or LCD screen is messed up. LCD display is non centred and duplicated. External display is similar with up to 3 identical desktops (and mouse pointers) viewable on screen, with some degree of "wraparound" as if around the rear of the display.
When the LCD screen and cable are disconnected the display on external monitor does not change. There are also 4 vertical coloured bands of equal width - each displayed desktop screen has two of these bands. The initial boot screen and windows loading screen are also distorted in the same way.
I've replaced the graphics card. I've reloaded the graphics driver. I don't especially want to reload the BIOS yet. I've reduced hardware acceleration to zero, I've gone to VGA mode, I've tried all screen resolutions. There are no other problems I'm aware of.
I've seen a similar problem once before and resolved it by replacing the display cable (different machine) but in this case the problem occurs even when connected to externaol monitor.
Can anyone help? I don't especially want to throw out a motherboard that appears to be working...
