I'd get one from newegg.com and spend under 60 bucks.

Hi! The DVD burner in my Dell Latitude D530 has died. I cannot play, read or burn CD's or DVDs, I did all the "checking" stuff weeks ago and nothing worked so I decided to replace it. I was going to pay to have it done, but the internet forum folks convinced me I could do it by simply snapping out the old drive and snapping in the new. I tried it with the existing drive and it worked easily.
So, I went to the (unnamed)forum for help on picking the right drive. Now --several weeks later-- I still cannot read or burn CD's or DVDs, I have purchsed a drive that doesn't even remotely fit. And I cannot even find the most basic information about how to specify any drive but but the exact part number from Dell.
By the way--the drive that needs to be replaced is Dell p/n C3284-A00. I was hoping to replace it with a newer, faster DVD burner. After consulting with the forums and shopping on line, I was advised to choose a specific Sony Optiarc drive which was supposed to be the correct one for this model. WRONG!
It's not even close. The drive itself is the right size but everything about it is wrong. The plug-in connector on the Sony drive is only half the length of the Dell drive and it's on the other side of the unit (left vs. right). I have tried looking up specs but cannot find anything that I can understand. I am completely frustrated and now don't even know where to go to start over. Plugging in the drive is easy.I just need to know what TYPE of drive to buy. Any help out there?
P.S. Anybody want to buy a brand new, slim laptop Sony Optiarc drive?
