Dell L55R Operating System

by servant17 / January 28, 2009 12:58 AM PST

We have an old Dell with Windows 98 and I want to add a Microsoft Word, Excel viewer. Office 2003 viewers won't install, so I'd like to upgarde to XP. Will this work? What is the minimum memory for XP?

XP's memory requirement is just a search away but you'll want to have 512MB if not 1GB RAM to be happy.

What is a Dell L55R? I can't find one.

Crucial.com shows you can fit 512MB

For not much. The problem is that a Pentium 3 machine may not work for many more years so upgrade if you must. Also let me give you a word to look on google with. The word is FREECYCLE. I see Pentium 4 machines given away from time to time.
