Yes, the 2200 is one of the last square-screen offerings from Dell's consumer lineup. Widescreens are nice . . . I have the 8600 (humble predecessor to the fabulous 6000), and I L-O-V-E my widescreen. It's just . . . I don't know, but I love it. On top of which, when I'm in Visual Studio I can actually see a whole line of code for once, but that probably doesn't matter to you.
It's the direction many laptops are going . . . but if you really want a square screen on a nice laptop, check out Dell's Small Business lineup (Latitude). You can still find a few more upscale square-screen offerings there. In the consumer section, all the mid to high-end computers are equipped with a widescreen.
As far as affording it, try http://www.delloutlet.com. If you have a specific configuration in mind, and you see it there, you're likely to spend $500-1000 less than you would configuring it. On top of this, it's the easiest way for a non-small-business to buy a Dell Latitude. ![]()
I am going to treat myself to a Dell Inspiron Laptop for Mother's Day. My grown children won't spring for the types of expensive tech toys that I can't live without. I am looking at the Inspiron 6000 with the 15" widescreen, and the Inspiron 2200 with the 15" regular square screen. Why is everyone going for the widescreen? They are wide but short(not tall). They look like a rip-off. I don't do spreadsheets anymore. So, I have no need for the widescreen. The Inspiron 2200, however, looks cheezy. But, it has the screen I want. What are your suggestions? P.S. I wish I could afford the Inspiron 17" screen.
