Question

Dell Inspiron Laptop:Strange screen problem

Jul 19, 2013 10:51AM PDT

Have a yr. old Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop, 64 bit, Windows 7. Randomly, the screen will suddenly be covered with very thin, horizontal, multi-colored, fast moving lines. No way to stop it or shut down except to use power button. So far I have sent it in to the Dell Depot. They replaced the hard drive and re-installed Windows7. Within a day or so of receiving it back, it was doing the same thing. I purchased an extended warranty ($154 for hardware issues) and they sent out a tech who replaced the motherboard and screen. Everything was fine for a few weeks and now it is doing it again. I'm not looking forward to dealing with Dell again because I don't know what else they can replace. I will of course, but would be interested in knowing if this is something anyone on here has heard of.
I'm sure there is more info needed but I'm not very computer literate. I'm a 60+ yr. old granny and just want it to work right!

These have a year warranty. Let them fix it.

And if out of warranty, did anyone talk to you about maintenance? Such as canned air to the vents?

Warranty
Jul 19, 2013 1:58PM PDT

Hi Bob. Yes the one yr. warranty is just now up this month but I bought an additional year. It's nice and clean. I assume the depot cleaned it when I sent it in. If not though, the in-house tech who replaced the screen and mother board did. I didn't really understand what all he was doing except for what he explained, but I did see him cleaning it up nicely.
Thanks for the reply!

It's usually one of the usual.

The heatsink lifted off, fan failed, vent blocked or motherboard failed. If it's not hardware, reloading the OS cures it.
