My Uncle has a Inspiron 9300 with a 1.6gHz pentium, plenty memory & HD, Nvidia GE force go6800 graphics, widescreen disply. It came with XP home edition and all the dell software extras ie: dell media expereince, and trial programs etc. But no restore disc.
Here goes: He began having BSODs (frequently) and system was unstable.
Step#1: Using the "control and F11" buttons to restore the OS wasn't solving the problem. Also system back up using Sonic Simple Backup apparently wasn't working either.
Step#2: He next formatted the hard drive and installed XP pro, and when we tried to install service pack 2 it wouldn't take and eventually BSOD. Seems like it wouldn't install properly. Also Sonic backup failed to work at all (ie different OS).
Step#3: NEXT we bought a XP Home Edition upgrade. Installation went good. Problem is once its set up and everything seems ok, the next morning BSODs again.
So then he reinstalls XP home edition AGAIN and the next day same thing again. This is the 5th day of step#3.
He is at his wits end, has anyone any advice or had simular experience that knows of a solution.
Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly
Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
