Question

DELL INSPIRON 9100 BLACK SCREEN

Feb 9, 2012 4:09PM PST

I have an Inspiron 9100 laptop. Last July I upgraded the hard drive and the memory. I have had several problems and had to reinstall windows twice. After reinstalling windows a few days ago, the laaptop was running fine until a windows update to service pack 3. After the required reboot, I got a message that the ntoskrnl.exe file was missing or corrupted. I used the recovery disk to reinstall the file, got a message that the file was successfully expanded. However, when I rebooted, after the dell logo screen loads, I get a black screen. I ran chkdsk /r and it said 1 or more errors had been detected and fixed, but still the black screen. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pete.

Hello Pete,
I was curious as to whether or not you were still having issues with your Inspiron 9100. If so, I can walk you thought a total re-install of your operating system, drivers, updates, and any third party software that may be needed (such as anti-viruses.) I can also answer any questions you may have in regards to your hardware (provided you have correct corresponding information.) I just got done completely upgrading, and re-building my own 9100, and now have it fully functional running Windows XP service pack 3, so I figured I can pass on any recently learned information to whoever may need it. Thanks,
- Forrest
