Dell Inspiron 700m CD/DVD firmware problem

Mar 1, 2010 4:13PM PST

Okay, here goes. I have a Dell Inspiron 700m with XP pro as OS. I recently updated the firmware for my CD/DVD drive from the Dell website. After the update, my CD/DVD drive quit burning DVD's but it will record CD's and play DVD's. The Dell website says I have a Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A so being the proactive person that I am, I went to the Sony site and downloaded the driver from them. Still wouldn't work. I then allowed Sony to scan my PC and they said there were no Sony devices on my computer. After further research, I found that Dell labled all their drives with that designation so I have no idea what drive I do have. How can I straighten out this mess and get the correct driver?

Try a FREE Download from ADVANCED SYSTEMCARE, available in CNET Download Archives. Has many features available for searching system for TRUE INFO on system builds. THIS ONE DOES MUCHO WORKO! Best I have found especially for FREE! Other OPTION is to open your case and see tag on drive for the INFO you seek! GOOD LUCK!

C D/DVD problem on Dell Inspiron 700m

Sorry, that was several days ago. I can't remember if it was Sony USA or Sony Europe. The information about the labeling of the CD/DVD came from a couple of different blogs. I can't be certain that that is the truth but it sounds like something that may have been done to streamline the manufacturing process.
