I recently purchased a fully loaded Inspiron 5160 and much to my dismay the screen resolution was horrible especially when displaying web graphics. After spending 3 days tweaking the video card, downloading every update imaginable and cursing non-stop I discovered what was albeit an unexpected fix ... I removed the Dell Quickset software and suddenly I had the magnificent and unbelievably fast Nvidia 64mb card at full tilt! Imagine my surprise to find that the problem was in fact caused by Dell's own incompatible software which apparently was conflicting with the video card drivers and settings. I then went ahead and removed every last Dell branded software off the laptop and reran all the benchmark tests to find out guess what - a 15% improvement in overall performance. Talk about bizzare encounters when the manufacturer of the hardware impairs the performance of the hardware by installing incompatible proprietary software. I am now considering reformating and reimaging the whole system from scratch just in case anything nasty was left behind. Oh yeah ... one last thing ... shame on you Dell for outsourcing your support to India where the clueless rule customer support ...
