I have an old Dell Inspiron 5100 that I was cleaning a few months ago. Unfortunately, I broke a few pins while putting the processor back into the socket. Recently, I got a P4 processor (socket 478) out of a desktop. I tried to put this desktop P4 processor into my laptop. It fits correctly, however, the laptop does not work. the power LED is on and battery indicator blinks. no other symptom, no beeps.
My question is, is the desktop P4 processor compatible with the laptop mobo? If it is, what might be the reason why it is not working?
Appreciate your responses.
