Question

Dell Inspiron 1564 problems

Nov 29, 2013 12:08PM PST

Hi, trying to get some help here, I've been having some problems with my laptop for the last few months, sometimes but not always when playing a game, the computer screen blanks (not to black or blue) usually green or amber, etc., & makes a loud sizzling sound, it will not turn off except by pressing the power button. It usually powers up normally from the abnormal shutdown screen. Then more recently I have been having lines, both horizontal (usually at the bottom, but occasionally in other areas also, you can see desktop, etc also) & vertical (screen is blank, white with lines flickering, no noise necessarily). Could someone please help me locate the problem, then tell me if I can possibly fix it myself.
Thanks so much for your help, & Happy Holidays to everyone.

Dell Inspiron 1564 problems
Nov 29, 2013 9:29PM PST

Sorry Mr Proffitt,

I forgot to mention that I have had it deep cleaned a couple of times, but may be time for another, will try that especially cleaning the fan, but don't know much about the heat sink, is it safe for me to deal with that part, may need very detailed instructions, suggestions of a site please.

My OS is Windows 7, & I deal with a lot of graphics, videos & some photos. Another issue that I have is sometimes when reviewing videos for editing, or on youtube, the video stops, (no picture, like at the beginning or end of a film) I usually have to exit the program & pull it up again before I am able to view it,cannot just click on it to restart, ???? (maybe I need to wait until I get the 1st issue fixed).

Thanks so much for your assistance, I greatly appreciate it. MT

1. Stay inside your comfort zone.

If you can't find service manuals or youtube videos and more (I did with google) that explain it well enough then I suggest folk stay out of the inside and try the canned air cleaning.

Stay inside your comfort zone.

2. Sometimes it's a failed part.

There are very few parts in a laptop. If I clean, do the work and if does not improve then it's the usual replace the motherboard step. I rarely find a bad CPU but it has happened but imagine those that don't work in the hardware zone. They would reload the OS, some might even try defragging (no, it doesn't help) and take a shotgun to the OS with a registry cleaner. The symptom sounds like it needs the deep cleaning and heat sink compound replacement. But there are a lot of shops that can't do that.
