I'd google UBUNTU LIVECD as it's the one I use for the test.

Looks like the video chip is failing. When you use an external monitor, it must be a digital monitor. If you should use an analog unit attached via VGA, it might look OK even if the video is bad.

Thank you for the response. I did the tests and the bars showed up and i could hear the beeps. according to that page it's a video card or motherboard failure. what should i do now?

Thanks for replying back with the test results. Did you see pink or green color or distortion during the LCD built in test? I request you to please run the test again.

This time, simply go to F12 screen.

Select diagnostics & when it asks 'were color bars displayed'. Select NO.

This will start the LCD built in test; the test will pass only if you see different solid colors on the screen.

If you see any distorted video or bad quality video when the LCD built in test is running then we need to replace LCD.
