Some recent hits or recent repairs for this one:
1. Replaced the hard disk. (yes it passed all tests, just not the real world test.)
2. Unplugged all USB devices. Go figure.

Have had several problems like won't wake from sleep mode and sometimes hibernate mode. But now won't boot on first try, just freezes before ever getting to Windows. Also suspect all of these hard shutdowns are causing hard drive errors. Ran chkdisk and it found and fixed about 8 bad clusters then it froze up about 2 thirds of the way through scan. About 10 hours later got errors again and again ran chkdisk and this time it found and fixed several file problems. Have run Dell diagnostics and all passed. Beginning to think registry is screwed up. Anyone got any ideas? I know I need more memory but could that be causing these types of problems?
My system:
Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop
Vista Home Basic 6.0 SP1 Build 6001
Intel Pentium Dual T2390 1.86GHz
Total Memory 1GB
Avail Memory 253MB
120GB Hitachi (drive C=110GB drive D=10GB)
Antivirus: Avast Pro 4.8
Firewall: Comodo Pro
