Dell Inspiron 15 3521 will not boot, loud clicks

by jecroley46 / August 24, 2013 10:58 AM PDT

When trying to boot the 3521, power light comes, disk light comes on and goes off and a loud clicking noise starts. If I power down and try to restart if might come up after 15-20 attempts.

Are you willing to try a new HDD? Can you try it without the ODD? And did you maintain the machine (canned air?)

I tried reseating the HDD in hope that it was a bad connection, no luck with that, haven't touched the ODD yet. It is still under warranty but I hate to pack it up and send it back. tried other suggested options such as disconnecting the power sources and holding the power button down for 30-60 seconds to discharge. Clicking noise has me baffled. No beeps just clicking.

Also I have run pre-boot diagnostics on it one of the few times it booted and everything passed, but at that point it was passed the problem, ran all of Dell online tools on it too and it passed but once again it was passed the problem. Just letting it run now until I find a solution, hoping for no power failures. Took out the ODD and it didn't help.

In reply to: UNDER WARRANTY!

Called Dell Tech Support, they are sending me a new hard drive, at least I don't have to pack it up, if indeed that fixes it, thanks for your responses.

Your laptop has a deep hardware failure that may require repair of dell laptop. It may be due to a memory problem or a motherboard IC failure. Contact reputable service company and do not try to do repairs your self.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
