Dell Inspiron 1420

by jschafer05 / January 13, 2010 8:06 PM PST

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 that I had to reformat the hard drive on everything appeared to be fine with it, I had all my discs and was able to download other drivers off my desktop. My problem occurs when I install windows updates. Every time I install them, my computer will not start up properly. I have to put in my windows disc and go to the repair section of it. Also, when I close the lid on my laptop, it starts to install updates and than shut down and the problem occurs again.

Does anyone have any suggestion of what I can do to fix this problem. Thanks

To trouble shoot this you need the number of the update (it's form is KB123456) in order to research what could be amiss.

Do you remember this:

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

(doctor) "Don't do that."

Sorry to read about the pending installs issue. Unless you can supply some details.

This problems occurs whenever I install any update or when the computer shuts down for any reason. I guess I could have been a little clearer on that. Any suggestions?

Clear enough.

But that only gets us to "don't do that." Or reformat and don't do what breaks the system.

Until the KB numbers are known I won't know what they are for and why they fail.
