Dell Inspirion 700m screen

Oct 27, 2004 6:12AM PDT

Hi,
I just received this computer, which I ordered online. The screen IS crystal clear, but it is also VERY SHINY!!! I am concerned that this will be annoying. Can anyone who's a user of a computer with the crystal clear/LCD type screen comment on whether you get used to it easily and how you like it? I don't immediately see the advantages. Can you help?? THANKS!

I do not own a laptop, but have extensively researched the many possibilities. I continue to search for my ideal laptop.

This search brought me to the "bright" or "clear" screens as you described. Sony, HP, and Toshiba also have models that have this type of screen as an option. The only negatives I have come across is the glare. When you are in a room with alot of flourescent lighting, this could be a problem. I experienced this first hand in many of the stores. I have heard that this problem also exists when using the laptop outside on a sunny day.

Other than that, I do remember the screens being exceptionally clear!

Mofirensd covered it pretty well.

These Briteview/Trubrite/Xbrite, Crystal View LCDS are very popular on the consumer level as the coating does bring out a very clear and sharp picture.

HP/Compaq offers both the XGA non-Briteview and Briteview by custom order and the SXGA and UXGA variants are not Briteview.

For consumer use inside these should be great (especially when watching DVD's) but if you are using at work with flourescent lights or in places with direct light behind you (or outside) you would be better off with the non-Briteview LCD's.

Notice that these LCD's are appearing across the board in many cases on the consumer level but not at the business level.
