Dell Hinges and Opening Latch Problems

May 3, 2009 1:25AM PDT

Hi,
I've had the laptop since about christmas last year so i'm out of warranty, in the last week this hinge problem has developed where there's no resistance in it so the screen only stays open if it's perfectly vertical, i've heard something about tightening screws to fix it? Also the opening catch isn't working so i've resorted to opening with a credit card..... anyone any advice please, i'm a student so i really can't afford a technician fee, if there's anyone generous enough to offer some idiot proof advice i would appreciate it greatly!

Dell 1720 btw. Thanks.

Extend the warranty?

Or just call them and ask how much to fix or how much for parts.

There is no magic here.

PS. I bet you hear about the "idiot proof" items. What happens next is we find better ______s.

Find the parts and swap them out. Watch on ebay for your laptop but with a dead LCD or motherboard. These usually go for cheap.
