Resolved Question

Dell e7450 doesn't see TP Link 8960nWireless n Modem Router

Jul 25, 2018 7:27PM PDT

Hi,

My mate has the above 2 items. Dell e7450 Wireless works and sees my iphone & other networks but doesn't see the TP Link 8960n Wireless n Modem Router.

My phone and two other older laptops see the TP Link 8960nWireless n Modem Router.

The e7450 has Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265. It supports the WLAN standards 802.11a/b/g/n/ac in 2.4 and 5 GHz networks but cannot see the TP Link 8960n.

Is this a setting some wear in the laptops network setup or a clash between new & old tech?

The usual fix

Is to use some USB WiFi stick. As to why it doesn't show it could be the person who set up the router only allows certain machines or they set the channel to 14 which not all machines can reach. There are dozens of reasons which you can find on google so I don't list them all here but share the usual fix I use.

Yes I had thought of that.

Hi,

The Dell was purchased via a Microsoft Shop and it should have come with Win 10 but was loaded with Win 7. It was taken back and they loaded Win 10. I will check it next time I visit him to see if they loaded the Dell drivers or generic drivers. That also may be the problem.

If we cannot solve the problem a USB Wifi stick is the way to go.

Thanks

One of the Dell things you must know is how to get the drivers and the Dell Quickset Utility to control the WiFi and more. Use the Service Tag at Dell.com to show what drivers are required.

Some ask what is the Dell Quickset Utility but that's on the web. My short answer is I find it to control the WiFi and it is required on almost all Dells.
