Dell E198FPf Monitor won't power on

Oct 5, 2009 9:35PM PDT

Hi,

We are running XP prof on Dell optiplex 755 and I have 3 users (out of 60+) who are constantly having issues with their monitors.

About once or twice a month, the monitors won't power on.

There doesn't seem to be a pattern and it doesn't happen at the same time for all of them.

At different times when this has happended we have:
Replaced the monitor (and connecting cable to the pc)
Replaced the power cables
Replaced the PC
Plugged them into surge protectors

And still the problem reoccurs and always only for the same 3 people.

We thought at first that the fuses were going in the plugs - hence the replacement of the power leads and the use of surge protectors - but it was happening so often that we eventually plugged a replaced lead in to another monitor - and the monitor powered up.

Sometimes all we need to do to get the monitor to power on is to plug out the power lead from the monitor and from the surge protector and it will work - other times we need to replace the power lead - though there is nothing wrong with the lead (maybe this is more to do with the amount of time that the power is disconnected from the monitor???).

There is no message on the monitor - no green light and no amount of mashing the keyboard or moving and clicking the mouse will bring the monitor up.

It is always the same 3 people. 2 sit beside each other and the third is some distance away - so I don't think it is a power supply issue. In fact the pc and monitor of one of the people is plugged into the same surge protector as the person sitting beside them and that person has never had any issues.

I don't think that these people are messing with the power settings - I honestly don't think that they would know how to do it or be interested in doing it!

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

A.
