Dell Dimension 8200 - Very Loud

Aug 6, 2004 1:44PM PDT

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 which I bought a few years back. Anyway, it is very loud and high pitched sometimes while sometimes it's pretty quiet. This has being going on a long while. Any ideas to help/fix?

Try to narrow it down. Hard disk? Some fan?

I'm thinking fan. I don't know much about computers, but it's a sort of buzzing sound.

Such as mechanical things. Imagine if you can, the last one I fixed found a small paper strip the had found its way inside the laptop and with a magnifying glass and tweezers it was all better. I'm not saying this is your issue, but finding the exact point of the noise and seeing if some reason for the noise is there, can make this a cheap thing to fix.

You may want to try picking up some canned air and very carefully clean the dust from your fans.

Sounds like a bad bearing in a fan may be causing all your problems.
