Dell Dimension 2400 USB ports not all working w/VZ wireless

by cdmeyer49 / June 16, 2010 1:24 PM PDT

I recently purchased Verizon wireless 5G internet device. Download and connection to internet went fine. After I connected the Verizon device to the Dell USB port though, it killed my other USB connections. I have 6 USB ports. Printer nor anything else would respond. Once I disconnected the Verizon wireless device, then rebooted, the other devices worked fine. I tried all different USB configurations with the Verizon device and other USB connected devices. Always the same issue. I can use multiple other USB ports/devices at the same time, just not with the Verizon device connected. Verizon Tech support has no clue. Dell wants my credit card number to even talk to a real person. Please help. I am running Windows XP SP3

Today I find XP to be getting harder and harder to support. Drivers are now lagging for fixes so while this sounds like a driver issue I strongly suggest you go back to when it worked WITHOUT the VZ wireless USB device.

Now back to when it worked talk to Verizon about their MIFI devices. More at http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10235202-1.html

That is one of the first things I tried. No change. I am thinking a new computer may be in order at this point. This thing is about 5 - 6 years old with a whopping 34.5 Gb Hd and gradually upgraded to 1.5 Gb RAM.

Could the ports be fried? Again it sounds like a driver issue, Windows has system restore, driver rollback and not much else.

Sorry if I was there I would install the Dell issued drivers but that's about it.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
