There is a Dell kiosk in the Pleasanton Stoneridge Mall (San Francisco East bay at intersection of highways 680 and 580) so they must have them elsewhere also.
You should absolutely try to find a kiosk unless you have a friend or colleague that has had one of these notebooks.
Otherwise, you can try HP/Compaq and Toshiba in stores and order them custom online just like Dell (particularly HP/Compaq).
Someone else in San Diego was looking for a kiosk. Have you gone to the Dell website or called customer service to ask where these are ?
The one in Pleasanton is in the open aisle just outside of Sears inside the mall. These kiosks are likely to be only in indoor malls in the high traffic areas of indoor mall corridors.
I'm trying to decide on a new notebook and I'm really fixated on the dell d600. CNET review for it isn't bad but the only problem is that I can't see an actual one in person (dell doesn't have any kiosk or stores in california). does anybody know anything about it?
How is the keyboard size? the performance? and excessive heat?
also because it was meant for business employees, how does it compare to home use?
