Dell Computers

I'm interested in a Dell 4600. It seems to me that Dell's Small Business page has better deals than their Home & Home Office page. I read one review on another site and the fellow said he bought his computer on the Small Business page - Dell doesn't check into this. Is this really OK to do?

Well Dell has pricing all over the wall and such. In other words, YOU BETTER READ THE FINE PRINT!!!!

Dell can have as such as 3 different pricing for the same system configuartion. They being the catalogs(mailed), website, and newspaper/magazine, regardles of business or home use, though it is explained somewhat(you have to look for it). Timing is very important to Dell, so understand if something is being offered from day 1 to day 5 and stops at 12:00(midnight), believe it. The clock also starts the moment you placed an order for warranty purposes, gee whiz what a crock. Don't buy online until yopu see what the final pricing is and CONFIGURATION, they have a tendency to help too much in order to raise final configuration, check the actual items being installed or provided, but a package/promotion maybe a finalize item. Thus, again be careful what you're getting into.

I mention the above as I get some feedback from users after warranty is gone about the runaround they seem to feel they get plus the non-supportive tech support of dubious nature now(really a PITA) if it wasn't before due to offshoring. Understandably, I no longer suggest Dell to anyone as a topline company but at least 3 others to help select from OEM venders. The others being eMachines(Gateway), HP and IBM. I exclude possible big OEMs that custom build, but heck too many to mention when a good magazine provides that same info.

what about Velocity, ABS, or Systemax? They supposedly do NOT out source, & especially "Velocity Micro", their CPU?s are Very clean & easy to upgrade; IE: braided cabeling instead of ribbon. On the Dell 4600, even though they have (2) extra PCI?s, Good luck getting around that nest of Ribbons!!

I was hoping the above covered many vendors that I didn't mention. Systems that come across my desk aren't always from vendors I've heard or read about, but they do put together a decent system. BUT, far too many times they seem to be going to the same off-shore shelf of parts and only the little things separate them, like harness wrapping/tie downs or attention to details. I don't know how many times I've opened a magazine and seen a "awesome" system from one vendor and see it repeated again from another due to same case and basic componets offered. Tech support has always been an issue long before "off-shoring" but its just has an uglier head now, but basically users still complain for whatever reason. As for the 3 vendors I did mention, they've been around a long time and regardless of any problems do provide some resolution if the customer doesn't get too irrate and even then. I just wish it would be easier as time goes on, apparently it doesn't seem so at times. 8(

Hello,

I really have a big problem with outsourcing American jobs overseas. Our computers are assembled right here in the US and tech. support is and always will be here in the US. There are other companies like us that still deliver a quality product at a good price, so it is worth your time to find us. Regards.
