Here's a link to their instructions for creating a backup using the "Backup and Recovery Manager"..
http://www.support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&docid=370461&l=en&s=gen
And as just an example, here's one of the user guides:

Hope this helps.

I recently had a computer Blue Screen Scare. I was able to find a copy of Windows XP Home SP3 online, make an image CD, boot from this and then use chkdsk /r.
I repeated this several times and it managed to work, and I am up and running.
Well needless to say I now want to explore backing up my computer. However, I cannot find the Dell Backup and Recovery utility on my laptop even though Dell Support site says it is on my computer?
My stats as best I know:
Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop
Windows Xp Home (updated to SP3)
Intel Core 2 Duo
HArd drive was factory partitioned C:, D:
I have moved most of my personal files to an external hard drive. However, I would like to create, in case of a crash, a disc, (or several) that I can load windows from and has all my settings, drivers, and docs, as of today. Can this be done without one of those Ghost type programs? Would want to avoid restore to just Factory settings if possible.
Where is this utility? No I do not have those purple discs and drivers that I think I called Dell for at some point.
Thanks.
