Dell 15r Questions.

Oct 4, 2010 5:11AM PDT

So far I've had my Dell 15r for at least a month and a half bordering on two months. The laptop itself started out very good, but was showing slow down out of the box. Now that it has been a while the slowdown shows even more though mainly on start-up. That is one of my questions as to how this could be and what fixes I could do to make it faster. More information about my build will be at the end as I will prepose my next question in the next paragraph.

The fan - something I have searched extensively about, but have found no answer. It seems that every minute and a half to two minutes the fan would cut on then power down a bit [but remain on]. Even as I sit in the library now I can hear the fans continuous motion and even in class I can hear it. It's certainly a turn off to what could have been a good laptop so I'm wondering is there anyway to at least alleviate this problem as well?

My build as promised from my first post is 6 GB RAM, 500 GB memory, ATI Radeon, and an i3. The scores I have gotten so far for my laptop is as follows: Processor - 6.4, Memory - 6.4, Graphics - 5.0 [Aero really? My old laptop could do this at the same amount and it was running vista on 2 GBs...], Gaming Graphics 6.2, Disk data transfer rate - 5.7.

For a laptop that has been given a lot of additions the likes of which should have made Windows 7 at least easier to run on, it seems to be taking a licking itself instead of 7. I updated the Bios and read somewhere that if I roll back to previous ones the fan problem will be stopped and not sure about the others. So any help as to this would be greatly appreciated. I was going to ask on the dell forums but, trying to get my account to link with dell community was like pulling a tooth.

I guess I can't edit post, but as of now my CPU usage is at 3~7% and I'm using around 1.70 GBs of ram [out of 6..] Of which only AIM, Microsoft Word starter 2007 and 4 tabs in Google Chrome are running, yet the fan can be heard. It's not like I am doing anything taxing on the system aside from work in the library so I'm wondering why it's so loud.

How I solved my startup speed.

I cheated. I use HIBERNATION also exclusively.
