deleting program

Jun 13, 2004 7:01AM PDT

I downloaded some time ago a program called Temp toolbox 3.0- www.dvdsqueeze.com and never used it until recently. I did try it and it apparently wiped out some of my programs (Thausarus, for instance) and i have tried to delete it but cannot. I DID manage to uncheck the proper box so it no longer runs (i THINK) but i cannot delete it.
when i try to delete it i get a small box that says " Cannot delete temptoolbox_trial:access is denied.
Make sure the disc is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use."
How can i delete the thing?????
thanks for any assistance....bob miller

Mil,

Did you reboot after unchecking that box? Otherwise it might still be running. First try that. It might help.

Does it appear in ctrl-alt-del window? If so, try to end-task it there before deleting it from Explorer.

I can't find any negative things on this program, so I must ask if you're sure it deleted some other programs of yours? Then go to http://www.temptoolbox.com/ and use the contact-button to ask/inform them.

Bob,

Whenever posting questions on these forums, please give us as much information as possible about your computer. Depending on your issue, we might need the operating system, processor speed, amount of RAM installed, brand name of the computer, (if there is one), and any EXACT error messages you are receiving, and any other information you think might be helpful. The more information you give us, the better informed our answer will be.

In the meantime, have you tried "uninstalling" the program from the "Add/Remove Programs" section? (Open the "Control Panel", then double click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon, then find the name of the program listed, highlight it, then click on the "Add/Remove" button.) It should uninstall correctly.

Or did you click on Start-Programs-Toolbox 3.0 (or whatever the true name of the program is), then click on the "uninstall" link, if it's there?

Have you tried restarting the computer in "Safe Mode", then uninstalling the program while in "Safe Mode"?

Hope this helps.

thank you for the suggestions.....the program i mentioned (toolbox) is NOT listed among those in the add-delete area of the control panel.
There is a desktop icon..as I mentioned ..and when i try to delete it i am told i cannot do so (as per my earlier message).
I cannot find any other place to delete it.
Thanks...miller

Bob,

Is the desktop icon a program icon or only a shortcut. If it won't be delete, it appears like the program is actually on your desktop. Is that correct??

Kees and I have suggested a few options which should allow you to delete the program icon from your desktop. Pressing "Ctrl-Alt-Delete", then clicking the "Processes" tab and stopping the Toolbox process, or restarting in "Safe Mode" should stop Windows from "using" the program therefore allowing you to delete it.

If that doesn't get it, Kee's has provided a link to the site where you can e-mail the programs' authors for support.

Hope this helps.
