deleting pictures from memory

by BJ0005 / August 24, 2005 6:07 AM PDT

I have an Pentax Optio S40 camera. I have some pictures on the camera memory(not the memorycard) that I can not seem to delete. Can anyone help me?
Thanks Bob

Deleting photos is covered on page 88 of your manual.
Although the manual does not say it, I would assume that you would have to remove the memory card before you can delete a photo in the internal memory:

Put the camera in the Playback Mode
Use the 4-way controller to choose an image
Press the trashcan button
Use the 4-way controller Up button to select Delete
Press the OK button.

.......................

If that does not work....you can format the internal memory.
That is on page 108 of your manual.
That will delete ALL photos in internal memory:

Remove the memory card.
WARNING, if you do not remove the memory card you will format the memory card and all photos will be erased.
Go to the setup menu and select Format
Use the 4-way right button
Use the 4-way up/down buttons to select Format
Press the OK button
Wait until it completes.

I tried both of these suggestions but did not work. When I take the memory card out and try and format, it says no pictures or sound. When I put the camera in playback mode with the memory card in , the pictures that I want to delete do not show up. They only show up every time I download to my computer.
Thanks Bob

Joe, you just threw me a curve ball with your answer to this one. Internal memory?? What the heck is that?
Thought that memory was with the card?
Please explain in detail. I do not have a clue.

This camera has a small built in memory. Or you can put in a memory card. Bob

Internal Memory

Some cameras come with a small amount of internal memory. Usually not more that about 16 meg.

Then camera makers differ in how you use that memory in conjunction with memory cards. They also differ in how you get to that memory for display or download.

And in most cases their owner's manual does not provide enough information about how to use it.

I have one camera with internal memory and I have it set to ignore internal memory. In my opinion, it is more trouble than it is worth.
