Deleting one of my 2 windows xp on my computer startup

Jul 25, 2007 12:31AM PDT

I had two hard drives connected to my computer and they each had windows xp on them (dont ask me why) now one of the drives is in another computer. When I start the original the startup screen still asks me what xp I would like to start. Since one copy doesn't exist anymore selecting that one will jus tell me there's a hard drive problem (of course because its not there). How can I make the startup show only one copy of xp or jus start the one thats there and bypass that selection screen?

thank you much

Boot ini

You need to edit your boot.ini file. There are several ways to do this. You can edit the file directly. It will be located on the root of C: and you will have to enable "show system files" to see it. You can just open it up and remove the extra line and save it. Another way is to type msconfig into your run command line. There will be an option for boot.ini and again you can delete the extra entry there. Or there are third party applications that will let you access this as well.

Just make sure you are deleting the right one.

Simply enter, C:\boot.ini in the Run dialog box. No need to "show system files."
