deleting my operating system/Vista

by Shala Sikes / April 10, 2007 2:33 AM PDT

I just purchased a new computer with Vista on it and I do not like the program. I know that you can have two operating systems on one computer and make one the dominent one when you log on but I cannot get it to recognize xp when I installed it. But I cannot figure out how to delete the partition with vista on it. If anyone knows how I can get it off of my computer it would help me ALOT!

Deleting OS Vista

You can format the partition drive, which would delete the OS. Use the command prompt, change to the drive that you need to format and type "format". The rest is your choice to make.
c:/format (y/n)

You can't from within Windows...

Just like you cannot demolish a house while standing in it, you cannot have Windows erase itself. You need to insert the restoration discs, restart your computer, and press any key to boot from CD/DVD when prompted. (You may have to edit your BIOS settings to set your optical drive as your primary boot device.) Then follow the on-screen instructions to reformat your hard drive and reinstall Vista. Just be sure you have ALL of your personal files backed up to an external device first.

That's been solved many times.

But the story is not complete enough for me to share which of the dozen answers I have at the ready. The most common issue is the restore media is not for that machine.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
