This is more difficult than I anticipated.
It appears that Sanyo has gotten out of the digital camera business.
They still make some camcorders but I see nothing about digital cameras.
Their website has been purged of support information for the VPC-5885.
So here goes:
Based on common digital camera knowledge not Sanyo knowledge:
Your camera may (or may not) have internal memory.
Check the User Guide specifications.
If there are pictures in the internal memory you should remove the memory card.
Then you can see the pictures and download the pictures the same as when you did with the memory card inserted.
With the memory card removed, you only see the photos that are in the internal memory.
Some cameras will let you transfer the internal memory to the memory card.
Some will not.
Check your User Guide for instructions
If you see no pictures, you have deleted them (or you have no internal memory).
If you do have internal memory, you can often recover the pictures by using recovery software like RECUVA.

I had accidentally deleted all my pictures in my camera while trying to upload to a computer several years back. My son was able to locate a program on-line from a programmer in Russia for $50 and it recovered about 95% of hundreds of pictures taken on a family reunion cruise. Unfortunately I don't have the name, but you could go on-line and search for program to recover deleted photos.
