Delete Key in e-mail writer (compose), SBC's Yahoo Browser

My delete key does not work on composing e-mails like the delete key works in "M.S's Word" program. To get rid of a bad letter or word, I have to use the "Backspace" key and arrow keys to correct? Why? Anybody have an answer to this problem? The "delete key works on this message forum because I just mispelled "why" with "whjy" and corrected it by just using the "delete" key. Any answers, any help?
