delete iPad music
Jan 17, 2014 5:25AM PST

when I try that iTunes tries to synch music on my iMac to my iPad. If I click off Sync iPad, I get msg that ALL MY MUSIC on iPad will be erased. I want to know if that is my only option. If so then I would have to reinstall/copy music I want to keep on my iPad. Seems there should be a simpler way.
Thanks

That's how it's worked since the iPod/iThings came out.

Your collection is on the Apple/PC and you sync with that.

Is there something not being told such as you lost your collection?

No, I have my collection. I know it is on my iMac. What I want to know is how to eliminate albums on my iPad. I know they will still be on my iMac--which is what I want.
Thanks.

Re: Sync

The easy solution.
1. Have a complete collection on your hard disk in your iPad-library for user A.
2. For user B make an iPad -library containing only the albums you want on the iPad.
3. Log in as user B to sync your iPad.

Since an iPad-library is just an index to the contents that's somewhere else on your PC, it hardly takes any disk space. And the very nice side of this very flexible solution: you and your partner (girl-friend, husband, whatever) can each have their own 30 GB selection out of your common 100 GB collection to put on your own iPad without any interference.
That surely works for CD's you ripped. I don't know if there are any copyright and DRM issues sharing albums you bought in the iTunes shop this way.

Answer
Create a playlist in iTunes on your iMac
Jan 17, 2014 7:51AM PST

put all the tracks that you want on the iPad into that playlist.

Connect the iPad and STOP the sync.

On the summary page, under options, check "sync only checked songs and videos"

Now go to the Music tab in the Right hand window.
Select "Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres.
In the Playlist list, select the name of the playlist you created at the start.

Back to the Summary page. Click the Sync button.

ALL the music on your iPad, EXCEPT that which is in your playlist, will be deleted.
To add future music to your iPad, add the track into the Playlist in iTunes. Remove tracks from there to remove them from the iPad.
