Question

Delete button not working , Apple MacBook Pro A1150

Jun 20, 2012 2:39PM PDT

The delete button on my MacBook Pro Model A1150 has stopped working which doesn't allow me to chande file names or delete or change browser headings. I highlite file names or browser headings in blue but when i hit delete button it doesn't work. Is there a way to fix the delete button or any button shortcuts to delete headings. Tried highlighting headings & then hit cmd & delete to trash but again , no luck. Would appreciate any help to resolve problem .

Thanks for your quick response ,R. Proffitt. Tried all your suggestions but still "Delete" Button doesn't work. Mouse key was already off & changed user account but nothing worked. Can anybody else put forward any suggestions to fix the problem to get the "delete" button to work. All other keys work perfectly, only the "delete"button doesn't work. My Laptop is an Apple MacBook Pro , Model. A1150 OS 10.6 , 2 GHz intel core Duo , Memory 1 GB, 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
Hope to hear from anybody to resolve problem, TKS.

If you attach
Jun 21, 2012 2:39PM PDT

IF you attach a USB keyboard and the key works on that, then you need a new top case. Good news is, is that there's a special repair program if you have little chunks of the top case missing along the front edges. As long as the splintering doesn't extend along any other part of the top case, you can get it replaced for free. Otherwise, given the age of the unit, it's probably not worth the expense. You could try finding one off ebay or craigslist and replacing it yourself, just make sure to pay very close attention to the screws and where you took them out if you do. There are four different size screws, and it's very important they all go back in the proper locations.

ReF; Delete Button not working on MBP
Jun 23, 2012 12:34AM PDT

Thanks Jimmy Greystone. Unfortunately the top case is in perfect condition on my MBP. I know of the case replacement you mentioned as I have just had my top case replaced on my MacBook (not MBP) for free by my local Apple dealer due to splintering of case in bottom right hand corner. Will borrow an external USB keyboard & try your suggestion. I suspect that an external keyboard it will probably work.
I thought maybe a loose connection under the Delete Button might be the problem or an internal connection may have come loose or disconnected. Suppose the only way to determine if it can be fixed is to take the unit to my local Apple dealer's technician for a guesstimate cost to fix it if it can be fixed.
If any body else has a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated, regards to all & thanks to R.Poffitt & Jimmy Greystone for taking time to respond.

Yup

Yup, you caught me... I missed you saying MBP in the post and just saw the MB in the subject. So, just to be clear to anyone else reading, the splintering only applies to the non-unibody MacBooks.
