I have a friend that has window 98 SE, Penium 3 ,1000mhz and has problem with Defragment,not working right,it scans 1% then 2 % then goes back to 0% continious for half an hour. How do we get them to work right, he lost Win98 SE CD and all..

I had the same problem. You need to shut down EVERYTHING that is running in the background. You will need to disable the screensaver first. Also disable anything that is automatically updating,like 'IncrediMail' that has a timed search for mail. Every time something writes to the drive,the Defrag starts over again. Mine used to take 3 to 4.5 hours to run.After I found everthing that was running,it went down to about 20 minutes.

Next, clean out the junk files on the computer by using the link below:

After that, follow the instructions below to run Scandisk first, then Defrag:
