Defect Log Errors Samsung A-630

Feb 27, 2009 2:15PM PST

Just a quick question I hope you may have an answer to. I went to the service menu to check manufatcure date. While there I checked the Defect Log and noted 13 entries each dealing with FRCM 120hwrite errors. Basically 0xd4 FRCM: Write Line 21 IICError!!

There were no dates associated with these errors. Do you know what this is and if I should contact Samsung about it?

Log errors

Mtnmike293,

I can't speak to the service menu. I don't think there's a reason to call unless something is noticably wrong outside of the service menu.

Defect Log - Error Code
Feb 27, 2009 11:19PM PST

I believe FRCM has something to do with AMP. Whenever I have AMP on regardles of the setting I can see no difference in the picture from having it off. Would you at least have a reference as to what the error code means. As I said previously there are 13 seperate write error entries. Also if you know what exactly in the defects log, and what is being recorded there?

Can't help...
Feb 28, 2009 5:35AM PST

Mtnmike293,

As previously stated, I don't speak to service menu issues. I'm not trying to be rude, but I can't field those questions on a public forum. The service menu is for qualified Samsung technicians only.

What I CAN suggest is that you call 800-SAMSUNG, ask for Tier 2 support immediately, and see if they can shed any light on the subject. They might give you the same answer, but they may have the ability to speak on those issues. Unfortunately, I don't.

I apologize I couldn't be of assistance.

Follow-up
Feb 28, 2009 7:42AM PST

Thanks for your timely response. One last concern if you would. Does simply accessing and reading information in the Service Menu void a warranty even though changes have NEVER been made during access? I am a little concerned about making the call if it does. That's why I was inquiring anonymously in here. Thanks!

Good question....

Mtnmike293,

I'm glad you asked - I didn't think about that. Eeesh. Sorry!!

Any technician worth his salt would be able to see when the menu was accessed last if he wanted to. Usually damage that occurs from an unauthorized user in the service menu is not covered under warranty, which is why I'm such an open stickler about it. I would not suggest trying to 'reset' anything, as I know one instance where such a reset turned all the picture values to zero, and pretty much scrap-heaped the unit. I'm not trying to scare people, but that's the reality. You can't work on your own car engine, screw it up, and expect the warranty to cover the resulting fix - that logic applies here as well.

Calibrations do often require the service menu, and some people watch and notice things during the calibrator's visit.

I can't speak to the official result of admitting <b>any</b> service menu access from non-auths, so I don't know how that would be logged.

There are some other tech forums where people might be able to address that openly - and this is one - but just... not by me. I might suggest exploring that route first - maybe some online technicians have some experience or insight on that. I did a google search to see what would appear, and I got nothing. For all I know - honestly - that could just be where the list of error icons are stored, such as "Mode Not Supported" or "Function Not Available".

I appreciate your understanding about the prior requests. Happy
