Default program to open .DBX files....

Dec 14, 2003 4:21AM PST

was changed to always open in Wordpad. What is the default Windows program used? Properties of the dbx file shows "unknown app" on an unchanged machine.

The most commone DBX today is Outlook Express. But even then, it would be uncommon to "open" a DBX. Instead you would run Outlook Express and it would use these files.

I would not fix this.

OE 6 works fine....

I am just curious about the default program installed by Windows. If I were to move the mail folder to a new machine, I assume the association would stay with the original machine.

While .dbx is for O.E. 5~6 emails these files can be viewed in both Wordpad or Notepad.

If anything try O.E.

in file association (Folder Options) Filt Types you can try and associate DBX files with O.E.

But when you do that double-clicking the In.dbx file opens O.E.

Whereas if you associate it with Notepad it opens the In.dbx in a Text file.

BTW, are you the Michael Geist from Ottawa?
