default program associated with file folder

i wanted to change the icon of the file folders.
so i opened a window and from the tools tab i selected
"Folder Options"->"File types" and changed the icon.
however after having changed this, whenever i try to open a folder it opens with vlc media player. can you help me solving the problem..????

Try the Doug Knox's folder association fix

Find the entry in the list for, "Folder Association Fix (Restore default associations for File Folders)". NOTE, the entry is not the last entry but nearer the top.

Follow the instructions at the top of the page to download that zip file and run it.
