Dedicated Server

Oct 10, 2004 11:41AM PDT

Hello Everyone,
Am New To This Messageboard. Am also new to web designing. Hope you guys would help.

I have bought a voice communication software for my website. Am planning to install it on a dedicated server. The software has instructions saying to run a file to configure it. The file is an EXE extension. I dont get this. How can you run EXE file on a dedicated server to configure it? why a dedicated server is better than a regular one? Its my first time planning to buy a dedicated server so dont mind my newbie mistakes.

Thanks
M

A dedicated server just means it's only real duty is to run that particular program. Normally, servers will run multiple different services. But in the case of Windows, the GUI will still be there. At the very least, you need some sort of a configuration method. It could be a direct connection to the system, or the old tried and true Unix method of SSHing into the box, or something else.

The main advantage of having a dedicated server is the fact that the server is all yours, meaning that you have complete use and control of the server's resources since there is no one else on the same server to use them as well; this means that if you run a resource intensive website, or an application or service that requires high specification hardware, you are able to without disrupting anyone else and without anyone else disrupting you meaning that you are able to ensure that your website or server is reliable and always available.

Blush Dedicated server hosting has to be the best type of web hosting for anyone, since you are not sharing your server with anyone else meaning that you have complete use of all the server resources; this means that you can allow for your large traffic website to flourish in a dedicated hosting environment. If you run your own small hosting business, then you are also able to ensure your clients a high level of reliability and uptime, meaning that their websites will also be up and available; with other types of hosting you aren't able to guarantee either of these factors since other websites and accounts could easily affect you.
