General discussion

dedicated scanner vs. multifunction printer

May 11, 2005 12:04PM PDT

I am working on my dissertation and need a document scanner; scanning photos would be nice, but only for personal use. The price range of multifunction printers and scanners is quite equivalent - is there an advantage to a dedicated scanner? I have a canon bubblejet that works fine for my needs.

I'm impressed with the new Epson Perfection 4180 Photo.

Epson 4180 vs. Epson 4990
Jul 3, 2005 8:28AM PDT

I want to buy a scanner to scan both old photos and slides and make a dvd with them. I would also like to make print collages. I have been looking at the Epson 4180 & 4990, Canon 4200F,8400F, and the HP5590. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Carol
